Manage Users

Users

Users are managed from the Users Page in the Security menu. Authentication in the OLIVE system is handled by ArcGIS Online (AGOL), so every user must have a valid AGOL account ID. If a user requires access to the OLIVE field apps, they need to be added to the OLIVE AGOL organization in addition to following the steps below.

The OLIVE Access Control Policy contains the standards and best practices for managing OLIVE users, as well as instructions for new users accessing the system. This policy is maintained by the Owens Lake Regulatory Compliance and Coordination Group.

Add a Website User Account

To add a user, click the + button on the Users page. You will need:

  • The email address associated with their ArcGIS Online account
  • The user's ArcGIS Online username (ESRI Account ID)
  • The user's full name
  • The user's organization (e.g. LADWP)

Assign the user a role based on their needs. If you are unsure what role to assign, you should first review the Roles section below.

Disable User Website Access

From the Users page, click the Edit button button, reassign the role to "Home Page Only," and This will remove access to all pages while preserving the user ID since it may be associated with existing system records (e.g. site visits).

Next, contact the GIS administrator and request that the ArcGIS Online username be removed from the OLIVE organization.

If an account should no longer have access, is best practice to disable the user account instead of deleting it. This will insure that an history logs, site visits, or other records associated with the user ID will not be orphaned.

Website Roles

Roles are managed from the Roles Page in the Security menu. Roles provide access to a group of pages on the OLIVE website. Roles should follow the prinicple of "least access," such that a role only provides access to the minimum number of pages needed to successfully perform a job.

To add a role, click the + button on the Users page. You will first create a name for the role and click Submit. Next, a list of pages will appear. Check the boxes for the pages you want added to the role. Click Submit.

Edit a Website Role

You may browse the pages accessible to a role and/or makes changes by clicking the Edit button button.
